Inside the Resonance Conch. Immersive woven bamboo interior

Services

From the first sketch to the last lashing. Design, engineering, materials, and management for bamboo builds of every scale.

Architecture & Design

We design bamboo spaces the way artists do, starting from the feeling you want people to have, then working backward into geometry, light, and structure. Festival installations, stages, ceremony spaces, pavilions, and permanent buildings.

Every design ships as a build-ready package: 3D models, dimensioned drawings, material schedules, and the visualizations you need for grant applications, festival submissions, or permits.

  • Concept design: sketches, 3D models, and renders that sell the vision
  • Event & festival architecture: immersive installations, stages, shade, weddings, and celebrations
  • Design development: geometry, connections, and materials resolved for build
  • Submission packages: festival art grants, placement applications, permits

Bamboo Structural Engineering

Full-culm bamboo is a real structural material with real engineering standards. And almost nobody in the United States practices it. We engineer load paths, joinery, foundations, and lateral systems for bamboo structures, documented so reviewers can approve them.

We learned on our own installs: wind loads in the open desert, crowd loads on climbing-height structures, connections that volunteer crews can assemble correctly.

  • Structural analysis & calculations: designed to ISO 22156, the international bamboo structural code
  • Connection & joinery design: lashed, bolted, and hybrid systems
  • Wind, seismic & crowd loading for temporary and permanent structures
  • Review support: festival safety reviews, engineers of record, alternative-materials permitting
  • Simulation tools: see our live solar harvesting visualizer and 3D lighting visualizer, built for the Resonance Tree

From sketch to structure

Every build leaves a paper trail. Notebook pages, dimensioned drawings, structural models. This is the Resonance Tree's.

Project Management & Build Services

A bamboo build is choreography: materials landing on time, crews knowing their shifts, structures rising in sequence. We run that choreography, as build leads on your project or as full-service delivery from contract to strike.

We manage volunteer crews, professional riggers, and everything in between, with the safety culture large festivals require.

  • Build leadership: on-site direction, crew scheduling, and safety
  • Logistics: shipping, staging, equipment, and site coordination
  • Full-service delivery: one contract from design through strike
  • Training: teach your crew bamboo joinery and build technique

Prefabricated Building Components

The future of bamboo building in the States is components: trusses, arches, panels, and connection systems fabricated in controlled conditions, shipped flat or nested, and assembled on site in days. We prefabricate for our own installs and sell components for yours.

Behind the components sits our own supply chain. Most structural bamboo sells by the shipping container, FOB a foreign port. We break that barrier with project-sized quantities of treated, graded poles, the USDA/APHIS paperwork and customs handled.

  • Standard components: trusses, arches, and panels in stock geometries
  • Custom fabrication: your design, prefabricated and kitted for assembly
  • Structural poles: direct-imported, treated, graded; no container-load minimums
  • Assembly documentation: drawings and guides your crew can follow

Consulting

Sometimes you don't need a builder. You need someone who has already made the mistakes. We advise artists, architects, and producers working in bamboo: what the material can do, what it costs, how to get it, and how to get it approved.

Start with a conversation; it costs nothing.

  • Feasibility & budgeting: honest numbers for your concept, site, and date
  • Material sourcing strategy: species, treatment, import compliance, and suppliers
  • Code & permitting strategy: ISO 22156 basis, alternative-materials pathways, festival safety review
  • Grant & submission support: budgets and engineering letters for festival art applications

Asked before every build

How much does a custom bamboo structure cost?

Small ceremony pieces start in the range of a premium event rental; large festival installations typically run $30,000-$250,000 all-in, depending on scale, engineering, and site logistics. Consulting starts with a free conversation, and we will give you honest numbers before you commit to anything.

Can bamboo structures pass US building codes and festival safety reviews?

Yes, with the right engineering. We design to ISO 22156, the international structural bamboo code, and prepare documentation for festival safety reviews and alternative-materials permitting. Temporary event structures follow a faster review path than permanent buildings.

Where does your bamboo come from?

We import treated, structural-grade poles directly from certified growers, and handle USDA/APHIS treatment requirements and customs. Unlike most suppliers, we sell project-sized quantities. You do not need to buy a full shipping container.

How long does a project take?

A rented piece can be booked for your event date with a few months of lead time. Custom builds typically run three to nine months from first sketch to standing structure, driven mostly by design review and material shipping windows.

Do you travel for builds?

Yes. We build anywhere in the United States, and our crews are experienced with remote and off-grid sites, including the open desert.

Can I buy structural bamboo poles in the US without ordering a full shipping container?

Yes. That is exactly the gap we exist to close. Most structural bamboo importers sell full-container loads, FOB a foreign port. We import treated, structurally graded poles and sell project-sized quantities in the US, with USDA/APHIS compliance and freight handled. Tell us your design and we will quote the material.
